Use of ChromID extended-spectrum beta-lactamase medium for detecting carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae.

چکیده
ChromID extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) culture medium is routinely used for screening ESBL producers. This medium was tested for detecting carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates from a collection of reference strains and compared to the CHROMagar KPC culture medium previously evaluated for detecting KPC-producing isolates. Producers of IMP-, VIM-, and KPC-type carbapenemases with high levels of resistance to cephalosporins and to carbapenems were detected at 1x10(1) CFU/ml. The OXA-48 producers were not detected on ChromID ESBL medium unless coexpressing ESBLs, whereas carbapenemase-producing isolates with MICs of <4 microg/ml were not detected on CHROMagar KPC medium.

Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates are being increasingly reported, particularly from countries surrounding the Mediterranean area. We aimed to quantify the prevalence of carbapenemase- and extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae in rectal swabs from hospitalized patients in a University hospital in Morocco, and to compare the performance of three scre...

In the last decades, Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamases (ESBLs) in gram negative bacilli have appeared as a significant mechanism of resistance to antibiotics. Although resistance to carbapenems is increasing among bacteria, they are still the treatment of choice for serious infections caused by ESBL producers. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of ß-lacta...
متن کاملPrevalence of Multiple Drug Resistant Clinical Isolates of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Producing Enterobacteriaceae in Southeast Iran
Background: Multidrug resistance and production of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) by enteric gram-negative rods in hospitals and community continue to be worsened. We aimed to characterize the multidrug resistance and determine the prevalence of ESBL production by clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae in southeast Iran. Methods: Gram-negative bacteria isolated from clinical samples of...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of Brilliance ESBL agar (OX; Oxoid, Basingstoke, United Kingdom), a novel chromogenic agar for the selective isolation and the presumptive identification of extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae. A panel of 200 clinical Gram-negative Enterobacteriaceae and nonfermenting isolates with defined resistance mechanis...
متن کاملPrevalence of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases Enzymes in Enterobacter Aerogenes Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections in Shahrekord City
Introduction: Enterobacteriaceae produce the Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases which is considered as an important resistant mechanism of beta-lactam antibiotics. The resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics is the main problem in the bacterial infections therapy. The prevalence of these enzymes changes in different geographical areas and with time. The present study aims to explore the frequency ...
